Our History

Back in 1869 John Hooker, Nathaniel Hooker's son, did not want to follow in his father's foots steps and become a stonemason so he used his hard earned savings to buy a bullock and cart.  He called himself a bullock conductor rather than a “bullocky”, where he started to cart stones.  This was hard going so John formed the firm Hookers in 1871 and purchased his first two horses and an express wagon.

Continued growth seen the New Plymouth offices built in 1890 and by 1914, he expanded the company to four express wagons and eight horses. In 1869 Mr Hooker had Furniture Removals written on the side of his horse and cart.

In 1916 the company purchased their first truck and with the integration of John’s four sons to the business came the name Hooker Brothers.  In 1983 the name was again changed to Hooker Pacific which is the name we all love and trust today!
